the super fantastic kcwc: fall 2010
September 29th, 2010
1. capelet . left, 2. bus dress – finally finished, 3. Fall jumper for Clementine, 4. Fall, 5. Lion Hanging, 6. kcwc day 5 – alligator hoodie one, 7. Quilted Vest, Part 2, 8. jacket progress, after day 1, 9. pant cuffs
Wow. I mean really: wow! You guys blow me away with the beautiful clothes you can make in a week. I mean really: a week! Some of you made a whole wardrobe and others worked a little each day on one piece and got it totally done by the end of the week. Even if you slacked off by midweek, I don’t want to think you failed (not to sound too pollyanna). All this challenge is meant to do is put you in front of your sewing machine and get you to sew a little, then maybe a little more. This momentum feeds your creativity: the more you make, the more ideas you have, the more you want to make.
1. Orange Jacket, 2. close up of fleece sweater, 3. windy!, 4. Baby Animal Hats 03, 5. STRETCH TERRY TUNIQUE I, 6. insulated kids’ vest, 7. IMG_5871, 8. IMG_1265, 9. Bragitas I
There were a few comments that summed up the week nicely (and I hope the readers don’t mind if I quote them here):
i did it. i totally participated in every hour (and then some of the challenge. and it’s been a blast! not only did it get me back on my sewing horse, it reminded me how much i love to sew – and sew with others! i also learned that at least one hour a night to do something that i love fuels my soul and makes me a better person. and mama. and partner.

and
Pfew, what a fun & whirlwind week of sewing this has been!
I was able to sew for at least one hour for 5 days out of 7 …which is more than I have done before! The most important thing that this week taught me was that yes, I *can* muster the energy to sew for 1 to 2 hours after the kids are in bed, and finally see all those plans in my head come to life under my sewing machine needle. A wonderful feeling of accomplishment! ;-)
So thank you to all the mothers and grandmothers and aunts and talented sewers who sat down in front of their machines and made beautiful clothes for some fantastic kids. And thank you to the kids who patiently (and sometimes not so patiently) stood and sat and stopped leaning and turned around while we took pictures of them. And thank you candy for helping.
Thank YOU Meg for organizing this! It was good to be motivated to do some projects that have been sitting around (in my brain) for awhile and now I have all this lovely inspiration in your flickr group too! (those underwear modeled by drawings are genius :)
I had so much fun during the week planning my creations, last minute trips to the fabric store and proving to myself that I can actually finish a project (or two!) in a week. Thank you for featuring me (pant cuffs pic). How thrilling!
Yes, thanks again for providing all the support and inspiration!
So glad you like the little capelet.
Thank you! I’m a great procrastinator if not given a deadline. I’ve been known to take a year from imagining something to actually putting it together. This gave me the motivation that I most sorely needed.
Thank you so much for organizing it. The quotes you picked sum it up really well. It’s surprising how much I can get done in a week if it’s KCWC.
oh man. i am such a sloth for not participating. look at all the awesome stuff everyone made. that should have been me!
Thank you for this great week. There will be so much to see, when I get to explore all the sites of different participants! I’m happy I participated (although one thingy I made is already in the carbage bin and one is in use but will be changed and one is hidden deep in the cupboard etc.) and I’m unbelievably glad and surprised you featured my modest stretch terry tunique. And thanks for Trula, too, for nice words in Flickr. I’ve been a fan of you both for quite a long time!
Thank you again Meg for organizing everyone and inspiring everyone! Plus for arranging the giveaways and flickr group.
I am super happy with how the week turned out for me (even though I slacked at the end of the week for the sake of birthday party planning). And I am super super happy to get to see all the amazing clothes out there that everyone made.
Can’t wait for the next one;)
xo
I can’t thank you enough for hosting this challenge. I’m thrilled that I participated and am drooling over all of the wonderful things in the flickr group.
And thanks for featuring my animal hats up there! I feel so honored. Sheesh.
beautiful works!!!
It was such a great and fun week! Meg, thank you so much for hosting it. I truly felt part of a community during kcwc. And thanks for featuring the shirt I made above — how totally thrilling to see it up there!
[…] in Uncategorized i made elsie marley’s sum up of the kids’ clothing week challenge. check it! Email […]
Thank YOU for this great idea !!! Can’t wait to do it again !!!!
What a fun event! I do hate that I missed this go-around. So much creativity!
Thank you so much for organizing this! The give aways were just a fun added treat and I thank you for adding some extra fun to the challenge. I loved how motivating it was to have so many others working right along side me. I am already a bit of a sewing junkie these days but this really got me going and now I am finding time throughout every day to get a little more done. Thank you!
Thanks so much for hosting! I was one of those who wasn’t able to devote 1 hour everyday :( But, I was able to finish a bunch of crocheted kids hats for a sale I was participating in, and I did make one cute shirt for my little cutie pie… I am soooo looking forward to your next challenge! Thanks again!
Thank you for the wonderful experience-I’ve loved all the inspiration and encouragement from this fun week. Hope you do them every year!
I informally participated and had a ball with it! Thank you to everyone who posted on flickr and inspired me to lend my creativity to sewing. I hope you will sponsor this again next year, or perhaps we could do it twice a year, so we’re covering clothes for more seasons.
I just wish I could make every week Kids Clothes Week Challenge! Thanks for doing this again. Looking forward to the next one.
thanks for getting me back in front of the machine! i was so inspired by all the talented participants.
i think we should do a “moms clothes week challenge”. it would get me to sit down and try some things for myself and help me get over my fear of “big clothing”! especially if i know others are out there trying with me : )
Thanks again for hosting this. I had a fun afternoon sewing with friends and did my first “hack” – I took an old favorite shirt of mine that was too short and made it into a dress for 2-year-old. It wasn’t perfect, but might be OK just the same. Will you do a winter one?
