christmas dress
January 16th, 2009
Sorry to disappear like that, but there hasn’t been much sewing around here lately. Actually none. This dress is the last thing I made (the day before christmas of course). It’s a simple enough dress, but the gathers were a royal pain in the butt. Velvet isn’t one of the suggested fabrics for a reason. It never gathered enough–the fabric was just too thick–and I had to put the button waaaaay over so it would stay up on her shoulders. And that is button, not buttons, because I got the flu and five button loops and five covered buttons just seemed like a lot more than I could handle. But she wore it to christmas dinner and was just the cutest (and that was really the point right).
I will be back Monday with the Mobile Swap 2009 sign up. Last year was a huge success and a lot of fun to boot. Check out last year’s flickr group just to see the amazingness and check back next week to sign up!
she looks darling in it! i could never put something like that together right before an event. nice :)
I used to wear velvet Christmas dresses too! how cute!
Gosh, that’s adorable! Seems like she loves it, too :) Isn’t velvet a pain to sew? It’s always worth it in the end though- great job!
It may not be a suggested fabric, but it looks amazing in velvet.
I’m very impressed. I’m waiting until the weather cools down a bit here in Australia before I tackle the pattern.
sweet dress!
i might just have to do the mobile swap.
that dress is crazy pretty. what a trooper to finish it while you were sick, on Christmas eve!
and hmm, the mobile swap again, eh? I might just sign up this time…
ooh beautiful….but i understand the sewing velvet thing — all those little fluffys that end up everywhere …….
i always have to use canned air on my sewing machine after i sew velvet to clean it out
oh! the mobile swap. i’d better finish up those unfinished items of mine before monday! (the dress is adorable. hope you’re feeling way better by now.)
ooh, I can’t wait for the mobile swap. I missed it last year, but this year I’m definitely in!
and lovely dress there!
Oh that is just the most darling little dress! So sweet! I envy your sewing skills. I definitely plan on doing more sewing in 09. :~)
Looking forward to the mobile swap.
It looks cute in velvet!
I consider any dress to sew a real pain….so I admire every stitch and pleat! Well done. Velvet takes me back to my childhood. Lots of velvet in the 70s
Velvet might have been a pain, but it sure turned out beautifully.
I like the one button idea…my five buttons did not thrill me…I am going to give it a try…
