froggy chair

July 21st, 2009

I bought this froggy chair from a friend of mine a while back. It’s actually hard to find chairs for kids that are in between high chairs and regular seats, well cheap ones at least. We’ve been getting by with dictionaries and just plain old kneeling, but often my daughters legs  fall asleep and then she’ll lie on the ground flailing while we finished dinner. Not really pleasant for anyone. So the chair. I guess I didn’t really mention that I was going to paint it, because everyone in my family was shocked and no one approved. For the few weeks it was at the table, it seems everyone fell in love with this god awful, garish froggy chair.  Well too bad. I just can’t stand that 80’s craft fair, dappled paint, googly eyed animal shit. And I love me some high gloss spray paint. Of course it’s still called the froggy chair. And I need to find another because the kids fight over it at every meal. I guess I better go hit up some old school craft fairs.

Oh and for all of you who subscribe to my blog via email, I’m sorry about that huge email you got with all the past posts in it. We upgraded WordPress this weekend and I guess that was the side effect. It shouldn’t happen again (and if it does, please tell me).

hahahahahaa! ’80’s craft fair, dappled paint, googly eyed animal shit’ – classic! you were so right to paint over it. so right.

i have just been stuffing some ugly toys into a bag destined for the charity shop, whilst my two year old had her back turned, i just can’t deal with the onslaught of badly designed toys that people think are cute and then buy for you, that you then have to pretend you like and then secretly get rid of them and feign ignorance.

i feel better for having got that off my chest. thanks.

I really love the chair in white! When I first saw the “froggy” picture I thought…”OH! That’s the first time I’ve seen something on Meg’s site that I don’t think is lovely”. My mistake! The white chair is lovely! I’m sure that your family will come around to your way of seeing the froggy chair.

Looks much better now, I totally agree. That frog was just not going to cut it…By the way, I got a chair of that type (between high-chair and table chair) at Ikea a few years ago. At that time they had several models. I painted mine and both kids used it…now it reminds me of those days and I can’t let it go!

    “googley-eyed animal shit”…perfect!

Guess what you’re getting for Christmas? That’s right: dappled paint. Admit it, you’re excited to relive the 80s. Better start planning.

  9. You crack me up.

Thank goodness you painted it. I was thinking the heat was, or something, was getting to you. But I must say, I did like that turquoise blue colour as an accent. I would like a bowl in that colour.

The yellow and lime green squares and orange spindles are just ghastly…like a train wreck, you just can’t look away! Perhaps you could apply some cool rub-on transfers that appeal to everyone’s sensibilities!

Nice lookin’ sweet basil behind the frog. Good show!!
(If I were a child, I’d go for the frog.)

Love the white! I love how a solid color brings out the beautiful lines and curves of the wooden chair.
I’ve recently painted things black and it just brings out the beauty of the original piece, instead of being distracted by wierd paint.
