teeter tot
April 14th, 2010
Some friends of mine started a fabulous kid’s consignment sale here in Madison a few years ago called Half Pint. They have children and jobs and husbands and thought hey let’s have a business too! I really don’t know how they do it, but they do and twice a year to boot. It get’s bigger every year and I’m so happy for their success. And happy to get a bunch of fantastic kid’s clothes and toys on the cheap.
I’ve had some great finds at Half Pint (pink high tops, green sneakers, red white & blue speedos) but this little rocker takes the cake. It’s called a teeter tot. And though I can’t tell if it’s actually old, or just faking it I love the look of it–much more than the exersaucer at least. The baby likes it a little (I really need to make a little seat belt so he stops sliding out) and the big kids love it. They sqeeeeeze in and play baby. While I’d like to think I’ll pass it down to my kid’s kids I’m guessing it will end up back at Half Pint. If you are local and want to find out about their next sale, and other kid’s stuff too, head over to their blog.
This is the best thing I have ever seen! I love the ducks.
Looks like you made quite a find. Does it look like it used to have another set of rockers on the bottom? This is great!

That brings back memories! I had one for my daughter many years ago. They were long out of “style, but I found one at a specialty toy store and HAD to have it. Mine had a safety strap, although nothing like what would be needed today in order to pass safety standards.
Love it. Also: love that paint color on the walls. I used to tie Joseph into a rocking chair using a scarf or a baby sling because I could not be bothered to make a proper harness.
What a find!! You really don’t find things like that often. Just make sure the child police don’t discover you have a baby-item not made of plastic, not covered in lights and cartoons without a safety rating… They’d lock you up for sure! :-)
It is vintage (circa 1950s)! As soon as I read this post I had to Google it to see if I could find one for my wee one.

The teetertot was made from 1945 to 1979, so I think that counts as vintage. That definition would mean that I am vintage, too, though… hmmm.
What a great find!
Thanks for the props, Meg! And glad you all love the teetertot. I wanted my kids to love it, so I’m glad yours do!!!
I just picked up one of these last Fall… it is oh-so vintage looking and love that there are no flashing lights or plastic on it! Enjoy teetering!
that’s super cute!
how lovely – much nicer than the plastic ‘activity centers/exersaucer’ around these days. then again, without one of those I might not have ever had a shower while the kids were little. what are you hiding in that closet without a door knob? i did the same so the kids couldn’t get at the craft supplies and extra toilet paper!
What a cute baby rocker! Makes me wish my kiddo were that small again.
My mom grew up in Delphos, Ohio!
We still have the one from our boys who are now in their 40’s. Now with all the safety concerns the grandkids call it the “baby killer.” Now how did our boys survive rocking in that thing without a safety harness!
Hang on to this it looks like an antique in the making! It’s so quaint.
I just found one at our local Goodwill store. But the one I got is on top of another rocker with springs. I checked online and the company was formed in 1934, and these Teetertots were produced in the 1940’s. It’s called a “Teetertot Shoofly”….it’s sort of dangerous, tho. I put our granddaughter in it and it leans WAY back. It scare HER and US! I took it off the springs and it is safer. I just love it!
