curtains
April 25th, 2011
I need a little help picking out material for curtains. Sadly this is the story of my life, which is why all the curtains in my house are white. I can not commit to a fabric. Ridiculous. The kids’ room is too white for white curtains. And they go to bed before it’s dark out these days, so they need a little light blockage action if they are ever going to get to sleep. Here are the windows (sorry one is a before picture, the other is a during): window one, window two. The fabrics I’m thinking about are pictured above, they are:
- nani iro painting muji canvas
- joel dewberry herringbone
- nani iro saaaa saaa (it looks like I randomly typed some letters, but that’s really what it’s called)
- alexander henry pirate grid
I want something dark blue and something hand drawn-ish. So vote away! Tell me what to do. My kids will never sleep if you don’t tell me which to get. Really. And if you have any other suggestions, I love to hear them.
This is all a part of me redoing my kids room and you helping. The posts about the process so far are Before and During.
I read the other comments but stil have to say I LOVE LOVE LOVE the herringbone/number 2!! If u order a swatch and its not the right blue for u I would still just type in the pattern/blue or navy and see what the search spits out at ya! It is beautiful and now u have me jealous for new curtains
no. 1 is my fav but no. 3 is good too.
#1 or #2 are my thoughts. #1 it looks watercolor and art like, is high on the light blocking spectrum & I would assume looks like a blue cloudy sky as a curtain. #2 for effect, good light blocking qualities & would give the kids great daydreaming time following the lines in the curtain. To me option #2 would be kind of a Shel Silverstein meets Escher effect. So I my choice is #2 for fun-Its like watching a ceiling fan and making it turn backwards- tell me I am not the only one who does this stuff (just thinking in kid terms)! The other choices look more like office furniture choices than kid space.
3!
I think you have the majority vote for #1, which I also like, especially with your cloud theme you have for the bed.. but I realllly like #2! Such a pretty deep blue and I love the feathery texture to it. All gorgeous fabrics, you will make beautiful curtains as you make beautiful everything! Can’t wait to see the result!
I like both the Nani Iro fabrics, because they are more playfull than the others!
I love the nani iro saaaa saaa – both the name and the fabric!!
I like the herringbone or the bold stripe. Looks like lightning and rain!!
The one with the stripes. The blue and grey vertical stripes.
I vote for #1, then #4, then #3.
I LOVE the herringbone!
I like the herringbone print, but I think I’d be wary of the quilting weight cotton–if that’s what it is. i think it is likely to fade pretty quickly in sunlight and it won’t drape as nicely. i’d consider something home-dec weight. i am normally a semi-designer fabric snob, but i am surprised sometimes by the nice stuff you can find at jo-anns in the home dec area. and the 40 percent off coupon really helps when buying lots of yardage. just a thought.
Have you considered blackout lining? That stuff is no joke. I used it on the curtains on the west side of my house so we don’t get blinded by the afternoon sun, and I’m really pleased.
I like the nani iro stripes. I think the nani iro #1 might look disturbing with sun coming in? But I’m a coward when it comes to colored curtains, so you probably shouldn’t listen to me.
I vote for the herringbone all the way!
I love #2!
Love them all, but I think #1 or 2.
i just made some curtains for my daughter out of some nani iro material. It was a cotton canvas I think they called it. and i think that is the type of material you were thinking of too. not too thick, it is great for curtains I think! I used one with blue flower/clouds, and i like it because the pattern is so random and hand painted looking, like the ones you were thinking of. . I was worried buying that much fabric online, without being able to feel it, but it washed and dried super nice and substantial, but still soft (and didn’t need ironing!!! well by my standards. and that was a nice surprise). I would highly recommend the nani iro fabrics. i was thinking of the #1 for my daughter as well but it seemed a little dark for her room.
Um….Number One is pretty fantabulous….As an element of the room and as a ‘piece’ in itself. Me thinks it carries with the cloud concept.
My vote is for the Muji. And by the way, you might be inspired by these photos. I certainly am.
#3 is my favorite, but if the cost is getting you down, #2 is a good alternative in my opinion. but really, they are all great. you can’t go wrong.
also add me to the kcwc – i’m too lazy to make another comment. ;)
Well, I really like the herringbone, but I think the pirate grid would look the best, but maybe a little too… I don’t know… gingham-y? Actually, go the nani iro painting muji, I think! I can’t wait to see what you decide!
Well if I bought the Nani Iro I’d end up making it into clothes for me (no way I’d be able to resist!), so I’m voting for the herringbone :)
I have to be different from the others comments I read – I like no 4 – the softer tones of the Alexander Henry do it for me. You might just have to put the numbers in a hat and pull one out and go with that?
The N0 4 does it for me, I like the softer tones. Having said that I have just been quite bold and ordered (could not face making yet another blind!)some lovely blinds in print ( I’m a neutral girl usually) from the saffron Craig range for my girls range. Will post a photo when they are up
That herringbone is awesome. And what is the pastry on the Easter table? Do you have a recipe for that? :) Looks very very good.
