Happy Homemade sew-along
May 28th, 2014
I’ve been saying I was going to do it forever and finally it’s here–a Happy Homemade vol. 2 sew-along! I’m super excited to partner with Cherie from You & Mie to bring you this sew-along. Happy Homemade vol.2 has long been my favorite pattern book. Recently it’s been translated into English and renamed Sew Chic Kids. If you’ve ever wanted to sew with Japanese patterns, but were too nervous to start this is the sew-along for you. You can jump in the deep end with the Japanese version of the book (and we’ll help you the whole way) or you can just get your toes wet using the English version. Either way, it’s going to be great!
Cherie and I picked the pull-over parka pattern for the sew-along and it’s one of my favorite favorites. We will go through the pattern step by step, sewing along with you the whole time. This is a super fantastic hoodie pattern. It’s good for girls or boys, summer or winter, woven or knit, so many options! And we’ll give you even more options in the weeks leading up to the sew-along: changes you can make to the pattern, things to add, cool fabrics to use.
I’ve made this pattern a bunch of times, and I’m excited to make it again! Won’t you join us? The sew-along goes from June 16-20. In the weeks leading up to the actual sew along Cherie and I will post about where you can get the book, what fabrics work best, and changes you might want to make. Then you will be good and ready to sew-along with us–from tracing the pattern all the way to the last stitch.
When you finish sewing, you can add your hoodie to our newly created flickr group: the Happy Homemade Sew-along. Your photos in the flickr group will automatically enter you to win some fabulous prizes. We are kicking off this sew-along with some prizes too! Tuttle publishing has generously offered to giveaway a copy of Sew Chic Kids to 3 lucky people!
So are you in? Yes, yes you are! Copy and paste a button on your sidebar to let everyone know. And like Cherie said: Bookmark it. Pin it. Don’t forget it!
My kids!!
I’ve been wanting to make a copy of my little guys favorite pullover hoodie- this would be a perfect pattern. A matching one for big sis would be super cute too. Can’t wait to see all the details everyone adds!
I just signed up for the sew along email. I can’t wait. I love this pullover!!
My five year old son of course!
I just got this book from Christmas from my Mom and love it already. I have a long list of people I can gift it to!
how can I pick between my son and daughter! I’d have to do both
For both of my kids! They’d love it!
I would love this book! So many great options for my daughters…
These patterns are adorable! :D
I love this pattern book too! I haven’t tried (or even contemplated) the hoodie, so this is just the right sew-a-long for me. I’m in!
Hello there!
I would sew for my little man who is 3 years old and always tells on his sweetest voice ‘mommy sewed this’, my heart melts every time despite that I am a beginner and the result displays rarely the love with the garment was created. Thanks for the chance to participate on your sew-along.
Hugs from Hungary
I would make one for my son. He’s always neglected on the handmade clothes end of things :)
I’d make a pullover for my little niece! She will look adorable in it!!!
A certain little boy.:)
a pullover for my nephew and one for my daughter! i think it would be a great birthday gift for my daughter’s friend whose birthday is in August; maybe in seersucker for cool evenings or a lightweight corduroy for early fall.
thanks for the chance! :)
I am so excited! I just bought this book and haven’t made anything from it yet. Can’t wait to join in the fun.
This one will be for my younger daughter. The older daughter got all sorts of handmade love, but now all the makers seem made-out.
I’m thinking something in taupe or gray with a bright (maybe even neon) pocket.
I am so excited for this sew along! I bought this book a year and a half ago and have drooled over the pictures but have been too intimidated to start anything! I think I’ll make the pullover for my daughter who likes to wear jackets year-round!
I’ve never done a sew along but this looks fun. I love the hoodie for my 6 year old son!
Ooh- I am so excited for this sewalong… I have the book in my stash, but haven’t delved in yet. Some handholding will be good! I plan to make the hoodie for one (or both) of my nieces!
Totally sewing along with this! I was just cutting the tiered top pieces out today and would love to do this one too
My four-year-old son :)
Either my son or my daughter- maybe both!
i have wanted to sew a Japanese pattern for a long time. Looks like a fun sew along and how awesome the book is available in English!!
I have two Girls (3 and 5)…. hard to decide who gets one…. I think I would have to make two!
