kcwc: day seven

September 26th, 2010

I’m have to apologize for the unfinished (can’t find the buttons), wrinkled (I can’t find my iron either) shirt and the model’s obviously slept in braids. It’s Sunday morning and we are all a bit lazy.

I wanted to make this shirt (from Happy Homemade vol.2 again) because I remembered I had picked up some awesome vintage trim that would be perfect for the little tab in the middle. So I bought the pretty blue corduroy and sewed the shirt up, then tore my studio up trying to find the trim (maybe the shirt has the power to hide things). I gave up, decided I must have given it away and used an old plaid shirt instead.  Last night I started on an old crochet project and there in my bag full of yarn was the ribbon.

I still haven’t found the buttons, but maybe they are hiding with the iron in the refridgerator.

Today is the last day of the kids clothes week challenge and I hope you had a good time. The flickr group is full of amazing things, I’ve found some new and fantastic blogs and you’ve pointed me to some new children’s pattern designers. Thank you so much for playing along!

The last giveaway is from one of my favorite bloggers, Kayanna from junecraft. She has kindly offered a $20 dollar gift certificate for her etsy shop to the winner! She makes beautiful prints, calendars, funny little plush, tote bags and they are all modern and stylish and cute as all get out.

To enter tell us what you thought of the week (whether you participated or not), or what you like best from the junecraft shop, or how you take your coffee. Good luck!

The winner is

#54: Claire from Moth and Sparrow!

Congratulations!

I was not able to participate as much as I would have liked (whiney teething toddler) but I really enjoyed the week, and I especially enjoyed seeing what everyone else made!

  2. Suzanne says:

I am glad I took part in this week long project. It makes me want to revamp my schedule and sew for the grandkids more…I forgot how much I enjoyed sewing children’s clothes!

  3. nina says:

i did it. i totally participated in every hour (and then some of the challenge. and it’s been a blast! not only did it get me back on my sewing horse, it reminded me how much i love to sew – and sew with others! i also learned that at least one hour a night to do something that i love fuels my soul and makes me a better person. and mama. and partner.

can’t wait for the next challenge. in the mean time, it’s a new priority to keep at least an hour for me every night that i can.

    thanks for organizing!
can’t wait for the next challenge!

I loved participating in my first KCWC. I thought I was prepared (things cut out, etc.) but next time I’ll be even more so. The challenge really pushed me to be accountable for what I wanted to get done and how I was spending my time. Thanks! Love the folky 2011 calendar, too.

  5. Jacqui says:

I’ve really enjoyed it – just like I did last time. I haven’t had as much time to spend looking at the creations on Flickr this time around but I’ll go back and do it when things get less busy in RL. I’m pleased with what I managed to get done and have one more thing to finish up over the school holidays. It’s amazing the motivation I get from something as simple as having a Flickr group to post in and feeling like I’m a part of something larger. Now if only there was a ‘Mums Clothing Week Challenge’ to work towards… Hmmm…

  6. Kathleen says:

The thing about this week is I’ve done a handful of things that I thought wouldn’t be fun, but they were. Which is kind of why I sew in the first place: it surprises me when and where the art creeps into my attempt to not spend a load of money on clothes.

  7. Jenn S says:

I really enjoyed this week! I could have madea dozen things. Except I was lazy yesterday. Today I will finish 8 & 9. Then I need to take pictures and post it all in the flickr pool. But that requires cleaning off the camera. I should do that too. What I really want is to go to JoAnn’s and buy more fabric!

I don’t like coffee all that much. I prefer tea.

  8. Anja says:

    Love the shirt!!!

Thank you for this week, I had a great time. My little girl’s high fever stop my sewing process, but anyway… I love looking at the photos in flickr group, so many great projects… I hope I’ll have achance to try a few…
    Thank you again.

    Anja

  9. I have found this week amazing! Such wonderful inspiration. I have realised that making clothes for my kids is no longer a daunting task, with so much inspiration and help out there I have totally enjoyed the experience. If I was to win the giveaway I would love the green calender or the renegade owl print. thanks again for such a fun week lou x

I love that raw sugar though sometimes I put in a little brown or agave nectar and a little skim milk. I often drink cappuccino’s and lattes though. I loved this week and still have two awesome things to show

Pfew, what a fun & whirlwind week of sewing this has been!
I was able to sew for at least one hour for 5 days out of 7 (not counting a full day of sewing class on Thursday, as I am working on s skirt for me there ;-) ), which is more than I have done before!

The most important thing that this week taught me was that yes, I *can* muster the energy to sew for 1 to 2 hours after the kids are in bed, and finally see all those plans in my head come to life under my sewing machine needle. A wonderful feeling of accomplishment! ;-)

And I have yet to fully digest all the wonderful and inspiring realisations that people have sent in. I was only able to browse through them quickly, but I have already discovered some great patterns and blogs.

Also fun was that I *finally* had to learn how to upload my pictures and use Flickr, so yeah, maybe that vague idea for (yet another ;-) ) sewing blog may come into fruition after all.

Thank you for kicking me into sewing gear, Elsie, and thank you everyone for this sewing vibe around the globe.

Oh my, I love that calendar!!! I love that this challenge gave me the push to get to work, instead of continuing to put off the projects. I finished two items, but had to move on before the full seven days (house guests coming next week). I’ll be looking forward to the next one! Thanks!

  13. Fiona says:

You rock Meg!! You and your KCWC has given me the kick up the butt I needed to get back on the sewing horse – I finished all 4 of the items I was aiming for…. woohoo!! With baby number 3 on the way you give me hope that there will still be time to squeeze a little crafting in here and there – I marvel at how to do it :)
Congrats on organising another great week!
PS. buttonless & unironed that little dress looks gorgeous :) Fiona.

  14. Domina says:

Hmmm… coffee strong with cream. “Sweet as the south and muddy as the Mississippi” as they say.

I love the KCWC. I’m a bit behind, though, so I will be stretching it into next week. But the hour a day is so motivating and DOable!! I sewed PJ pants, a muffin cap, 95% of a tiered skirt with faux petticoat, and have a good jump on a wool dress coat.

  15. Oh, the calendars are the best! What a lovely giveaway to end the week. I’d like a KCWC every season. It’s so inspirational. And I take my coffee very milky. :))

    Thanks for the giveaway.

  16. Tanja says:

Great Week! I’m hoping tonight to do the final hemming of shorts and jammies. Thanks for all the inspiration and positive “peer pressure”!

  17. anna says:

love the top, so cute and darn that you lost your iron and the ribbon, surprised that kinda stuff doesn’t happen to me more often. :) oh and i love junecraft’s stuff!

  18. Paige says:

Thanks for doing this. I only finished two things, but they’ve been sitting around forEVER and I know that I wouldn’t have worked on them were it not for the challenge. I too found several new patterns and blogs, which is always fun : )

  19. gretchen says:

we had a new nephew arrive 3 weeks early on monday, so my plans to sew were a bit delayed, though i have laid out a few for tonight and plan to commit to your next one. a bit of decaf coffee with cream in the brisk fall air will help me too! love, love, love your clothing challenge and junecraft’s work! thank you!

  20. Ninotchka says:

Thanks for planning this sew-a-long. I only got one outfit finished (at 3.27am this morning), but it was worth it all the same. I wish this week hadn’t turned out to be crazy busy in other areas of my life, but it was really cool to see and be inspired by others, and maybe I’ll do better next year?! Will post to flicker as soon as the wee one wakes up and can model for me

  21. Esther says:

I though that it was a great idea for a week though for me I have a few days left having started late but Ihave also lost a couple from a physical condition flaring up. Have loved seeing everyone else’s things and nice to get some ideas for my boys.

  22. Melissa says:

kcwc is very inspiring. I missed it this time, but maybe I’ll have my own kcwc. junecraft’s calendars are pretty awesome, as are her bags, and everything else on her site!

  23. Amanda says:

I love this challenge despite not participating. It provides great ideas and inspiration. Thank you!

  24. sy says:

i love the Screen Printed Market Tote – Owl in the shop.
