kcwc: day six
September 25th, 2010
Nothing fancy today, just some laze around the house pants for a chilly Saturday. Cashmere pants. I wish I had some. The baby hasn’t benefited much from kcwc this time around–not that he’s noticed. I’ve got a stack of pants sewn up for him that still need elastic, but they’re just pants. These are the best of the bunch and even they aren’t that exciting. I stopped buying sweaters to felt a while ago because it was getting a little hoard-y, but now I’m thinking he might need some sweater overalls for this winter. Maybe we’ll take a little family trip to the thrift store this afternoon.

Today’s giveaway is from Chez Beeper Bebe. Holly makes clever and cute things at an amazing pace. Every time I look at her blog she’s got some new, fantastic idea made plush. She has kindly offered one of her baby on a stick toys to the winner of this giveaway! My kids always ended up hitting themselves in the face with their wooden rattles (hey, no jokes) so these soft, easy to grasp, crazy cute rattles would have been just right for them. Also, who can resist a name like baby on a stick?
To enter you can tell us about your favorite little softie, plushy, cuddly thing when you were little, or a soft toy you’ve made for you kids, or what you are going to do today. Good luck!

The winner is
#23: Wendy!
Congratulations!

So cute! Two years ago I made a tiger version of the lovable toys pattern in Last Minute Knitted Gifts. My son loves it and I learned a lot making it! Today I’m working on waisbands for jammies.
I want a baby on a stick – how cute! I made a Wee Wonderfuls Archie doll for my son (in his likeness at the time) – he loves it! I should have made the sweater vest for Archie this week – then I would have finished!
Those are adorable! So far I’ve sewn a felt horse for our son, although he hasn’t shown interest in it yet.
I want cashmere pants too!!
I wonder how big a sweater I’d have to find…. no, not feasible…
Oh crap those are cute! My favorite plushie was a giant white bear that I got on Christmas Eve from our local grocery store. I had won the coloring contest and he was my prize. I him named Snow Ball Snacks and still have him to this day.
Love the baby on a stick! I’m going to (finally) make my neice a fleece poncho- I got the fabric last fall! (but I’ve had a baby in the meantime :-) wish me luck!
I am hopefully going to make some socks into baby legs today.
cashmere pants- so cute. and the overalls idea is amazing.
those baby on a stick are so funny- i love them.
let’s see today, pretty tired but plugging away on a hooded cape. just finished a dress- two dresses to upload and show off still. oh and i had rubber bert and ernie finger puppets that i loved and ate the hair off of….
Okay, confession time. My favorite thing when I was little was a Strawberry Shortcake blanket that my Mom made for me when I was 2. I slept with it until recently, despite protests of my Mom, and even told my husband before we got married that I wouldn’t give it up. About a year ago it was so threadbare and full of holes that I feared it would dissolve in the wash. I made a very hard decision to preserve it by sewing into another quilt. I made the quilt very large so I could snuggle under it with my children, but it was too large and bulky to sleep with. It now rests on the back of the couch, ready to be pulled down for some cuddle-time with mama.
I think the best stuffed toy I’ve made for my little one is a knit doll. I am new to knitting so it was a labor of love and looks more like a rag doll but that’s ok, she has personality. I’d love a little plush baby on a stick for a new baby my friends have just had. They are so cute!
I love the rattle. My favorite toy when I was little was a baby, that I still have. My son loves a little scottie dog that I made him out of some black wool.
Cute!! I love making the knitted toys from Zoe Mellor’s book.
I had one of those pink gingham fisher price dollies with a rattle inside that I loved. It became my daughter’s, and now sits on her shelf of special things in her room.
We went to a model railroad train show today, and I’m about to finish sewing 2 dresses, the last of 9 things I made this week.
Gosh! I have never made a soft toy for my gals! They are deprived I am sure. ;) I had a bit of running around today, but hope to get a few things stitched up while dinner is cooking & later after baths too.
BTW- love the recycled sweater pants. I too hoard wool sweaters, but if you ever look at Betz White’s book you probably will keep on collecting. She has some adorable things to make with old wool clothing! http://www.amazon.com/Warm-Fuzzies-Sweet-Felted-Projects/dp/1600610072/ref=sr_1_50?s=STORE&ie=UTF8&qid=1285448208&sr=8-50
I’ve made little fabric dolls without faces for my kids, and they really love them. I like to make new clothes for them to change into. A favorite is a full Batman suit for my son’s doll!
Thanks for the giveaway.
I love those rattles!
My favorite stuffed animal when I was young was a little brown bear I named Ginger. Ginger came decked out in a diaper, bib, and paci.
I hope to get my sewing machine unpacked today – moving really takes up precious sewing time!
I am close to finishing a little knit bunny. It’s for my second child, so wee #3 would love a baby on a stick.
Adorable little rattles! I had a teddy bear that I got when I was 5 years old. I slept with it every night until I got married at 19 years old. I still have it packed away. I loved that bear. :)
I loved a little orange rag doll we got when I was little, I felt sorry for her poor clothes and gave her loads of cuddles!
Baby on a stick! I love the name!
I don’t remember what my favorite plush was as a baby…well, I don’t remember what my mom told me it was.
Our girls loved “Mr. Bean” the organic green bean from Under the Nile.
I love these! I made some little velvet bunnies for my girls, but they care more about the pacifiers fastened around the bunnies’ necks!
I didn’t have enough cashmere to make pants! :(
Today I got a haircut (with only one child in tow) and went to the optometrist (with no kids!);it was like a vacation.
Love the pants, I have made 5 pair of upcycled sweater pants this week and am now working on a cashmere “matching” dress for the last pair that I made. Thought it would be cute if my son had the cashmere pants and my baby girl had the cashmere dress.
So far today DS (11 weeks old today!) and I have done 3 loads of laundry; nothing like a line full of colourful nappies to brighten your day, de-cluttered my wardrobe resulting in a suitcase full of stuff for goodwill, taken the dog for a big walk, and now we’re sitting down having lunch about to watch The Vampire Diaries.
DS says he would love a baby on a stick and will practice grasping extra hard if he wins one!
The babies on a stick are adorable. I’ve been working on a knitted cat doll for my daughter since I was pregnant and she’s now 4 months old. With any luck it will be done by Christmas!
