kcwc: day three
September 22nd, 2010
Sorry, little behind schedule today because I went out with my wonderful husband to celebrate our anniversary last night, but I’m up an caffeinated now, and the winners of the big butt baby pants and the toddler back pack patterns have been announced!
Sometimes you don’t need anything fancy you just need a plain old pair of pants. These are made with some nice, heavy wide wale corduroy and I used the same pattern as these shorts I made, only longer. Of course they are too long and too big all over really, but the boy grows like a weed, so they might fit at the end of the winter. Still, he loves them (hence all the wrinkles) and now says gray is his favorite color–wonder who he got that from?
For today’s giveaway Liesl from Oliver + S has kindly offered their new Music Box Jumper pattern! I think everyone who sews children’s clothes is crazy for Oliver + S patterns. And how could you not be? They are beautifully designed, well written, and come with their own paper doll! The purl bee recently showed off a version of the Music Box Jumper in corduroy (liberty corduroy!) and it couldn’t be more perfect.
To enter the giveaway today, I’d love it if you tell us something about an Oliver + S project you’ve worked on or a story you have about working with patterns or even what has caught your eye in the flickr group so far. Good Luck!

Never used one of their patterns but I know that I love them! I’m a sucker for nice packaging theirs is wonderful. I’m new to kids clothes but I’ve got my eye on a few patterns to try after this weeks challenge.
I have sewn three 0&S patterns. The long sleeved jump rope dress was my favorite. I feel like I am getting a couple of sewing lessons with each pattern. I’d love to win this one!
First, I love those corduroy pants you made! Second, I love Oliver + S. They are my favorite pattern company. The School Days coat pattern is what drove me to trade up my sewing machine. That was when I knew I was serious about sewing and needed a machine that could handle whatever I would throw at it (i.e., many layers of wool coating).
I just love Oliver and S patterns, I’ve made 2 pairs of sandbox pants for my 3 yr old, a pair of the pj pants, and 4 pairs of pj pants for my 10 month old! Just finished the 3rd and 4th pair last night. I used the Heather Ross doggy print for one pair, and some sock monkey fabric for the sandbox pants, and khaki fabric from an old pair of my husband’s pants for the pockets. Right now, I’m working on matching Sandbox Pants for my two boys for their fall school pictures, I’m using a lovely tweedy wool my sis picked up for me from Mood Fabrics!
I use the sketchbook shirt and shorts as the basis for all my boys clothes…. I even made a rather awesome western shirt from it!
I’ve loved all of the O+S patterns I’ve tried. Especially the Ice Cream dress. That’s my fav by far.
I love the Kyoko top from the flikr pool! Wish I had some time to sew this week.
I’ve never tried an O+S pattern…or really any pattern for that matter! But that dress is darling.
This ensemble (http://www.flickr.com/photos/kellyhogaboom/5013245811/in/pool-1293871@N23) caught my eye – so darling!
I have never sewn one of Oliver & S patterns. It would wonderful to win this pattern to be able to say that I have sewn one. I have heard a lot of good things about their patterns and they are so cute.
that is one cute dress pattern!
love the cords you made!
i totally loved these (http://www.flickr.com/photos/lauraculverwell/5012984592/in/pool-1293871@N23) pants when i saw them. the roll-up cuff? too cute.
I’ve not used an Oliver + S pattern yet but that will change soon – I’m just waiting for my sunday brunch pattern to arrive! I would love to try this one, too. Thanks for the chance!
Oh, I have never used an O + S pattern but have been seeing them everywhere and would love to try one out! Super cute designs!!!
I’ve had so much fun looking at what everyone has created!
My first (and so far only) sewn garment was an oliver & s bubble dress for my daughter’s christening. It came out so cute. I had no experience but I just followed the directions carefully & got a professional-looking fully-lined dress! So oliver & s patterns are the best.
Their clothes patterns are darling! So far the only pattern that I’ve tried out of theirs is the free Lazy Days skirt pattern – my daughter loves how comfy they are, and it doesn’t hurt that they are a super quick and easy sew. I’ve really been wanting to try out their Ice cream dress pattern & this one (the music box jumper).
I’m loveing the outerwear in the flickr group. I really want to make a raincoat for my daughter, but can’t seem to find a pattern.
Last week I ordered two O + S patterns, and they’ve just arrived today! Once I get a chance to go fabric shopping, I’ll get started on making a Sailboat top and skirt, as well as a Hopscotch skirt and top for my oldest daughter. I can wait!
Cute corduroys! I have the ice cream social dress pattern but haven’t made it yet. I was actually eyeing the music box pattern after seeing some made up in the Flickr group and that cutie one on the Purl Bee. I’m taking a Liesl workship in November and I’m going to make the Nature Walk Pants. Learning to sew knits from Liesl, hooray!
I am slooowly gearing myself up to make the puppet show tunic from Oliver + S. It’s just so lovely!
I’ve never actually owned an Oliver + S pattern, but they are beautiful! I love the clothes they design!
So ready to try my first Oliver + S pattern – this would be a great start! I have little experience with patterns, though I used one to recycle my husband’s pants into a toddler vest and had a great result (minus frustration with figuring out how to do lining)!
I’m in love with this pattern and Purlbee’s Liberty fabric!! Ah let me be the winner. Thanks for the generous giveaway!
I recently completed 3 jump rope dresses as part of a sew-along for my 3 girls. I love how classically beautiful O+S patterns are. Finishing the 3rd dress was how I spent day one of kcwc.:)
So far I’ve tried the lazy days skirt and the popover dress and they have turned out really nice. I look forward to trying more of their patterns!
I love the O&S patterns. I recently just got hooked on sewing for my 3 year old and in the course of a few weeks flew through the jump rope dress, the sailboat pants and top, the Sunday Brunch jacket, and the kimono pajama top. There’s just something about these patterns that makes the clothes come out great, and now I feel like I need to own and try every single one.
