kcwc: day three
September 22nd, 2010
Sorry, little behind schedule today because I went out with my wonderful husband to celebrate our anniversary last night, but I’m up an caffeinated now, and the winners of the big butt baby pants and the toddler back pack patterns have been announced!
Sometimes you don’t need anything fancy you just need a plain old pair of pants. These are made with some nice, heavy wide wale corduroy and I used the same pattern as these shorts I made, only longer. Of course they are too long and too big all over really, but the boy grows like a weed, so they might fit at the end of the winter. Still, he loves them (hence all the wrinkles) and now says gray is his favorite color–wonder who he got that from?
For today’s giveaway Liesl from Oliver + S has kindly offered their new Music Box Jumper pattern! I think everyone who sews children’s clothes is crazy for Oliver + S patterns. And how could you not be? They are beautifully designed, well written, and come with their own paper doll! The purl bee recently showed off a version of the Music Box Jumper in corduroy (liberty corduroy!) and it couldn’t be more perfect.
To enter the giveaway today, I’d love it if you tell us something about an Oliver + S project you’ve worked on or a story you have about working with patterns or even what has caught your eye in the flickr group so far. Good Luck!

Thanks for the chance! I’ve only made Oliver+S’s free skirt pattern, but that was easy and cute and I look forward to trying more.
ooh..i adore this dress..giving me many ideas.
I’ve never used the Oliver+S patterns but I think they are adorable. I looked through the flickr group and saw a cute matching dresses for a little girl and her sister. That’s what I’m into right now. Baby girl on the way next month. Want to dress them matchy matchy.
Well…I have a few Oliver +S patterns and am *still* working on music class blouse. I always like the look of pintucks, but they do take some practice. I have made a few of the free pattern lazy days skirt and popover sundress and was very happy with my end result. Seems like if I am being good and follow the instructions, I learn a neat little tip each time. I’ll have to cut into the wool I bought soon and make a school days jacket. I remember when it first came out – it was so wonderful.
I’ve never actually used an oliver & s pattern but I’ve been hoping to try one. i looked through the flickr pool and i love the little grey capelet by lemoncadet and the gorgeous little coat by supergail, such great work1
Here is what I learned yesterday: don’t use a heavyweight corduroy on your placket. Besides being killer on the fingers and impossible to pin, it will make putting buttonholes in an exercise in seam ripping.
I adore oliver & s. The other day my daughter put on a size 5 tea party dress that she has had for two years, and I was shocked that it still fit perfectly – just shorter.
Kids clothing week snuck up on me! I can’t believe it’s almost 1/2way over.
I adore Oliver + S. I made the Ice Cream Social dress this summer and my daughter absolutely loves it. It fits her so well, and is so flattering, too.
I would love to win this! My daughter is sorely lacking in the winter clothing department.
I made a right good cowgirl dress from the Jump Rope Dress pattern. Pretty damn cute.
i did the oliver + s ice cream dress for mary margaret back in june. it was beautiful!!
I have never used their patterns, mostly because of the cost. I absolutley LOVE them though. I love that they are nice and finished. So many commercial patterns, give you a cheap finish. I am always trying to add lining on my own!
I keep planning to use one their patterns so I would love to win!
I’ve never actually sewn an Oliver + S pattern, though I drool over them quite a bit. This dress pattern would look splendid on my little Keira :) I love the cord pants, by the way!
i love their patterns! i’ve made 4 so far and am so happy with the results everytime. i made a mosaic of some of my favorites so far: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lovemetwicetoday/
also, love the cords!
Got my first Oliver + S pattern (2+2 blouse) but haven’t made it yet. I am so inspired by everyone’s Oliver + S creations in the flickr pool – I have big plans to make something soon!
i love the oliver + s patterns and have been dying to try one but haven’t yet. I love making clothes for my girls and i just finished sewing my 3 year olds simplicity dorothy costume for halloween. i love it because it looks exactly like her dress in the movie.
I love the color of fabric that you chose!
Made by Rae’s kelly green jumper in the flickr group is adorable!
I’ve been working on my first Oliver + S pattern for KCWC! I’d daydreamed about sewing clothes for a baby daughter for many childless years, but somehow, this 2 + 2 blouse is the first anything I’ve sewn for my 16-month-old.
ANYway, I’m enjoying the process and the instruction and the fantastic pattern. I’d love to try another! Thanks for the giveaway!
I haven’t used any Oliver + S patterns yet, since I’m only just starting my first child’s garment (the Uptown Girl jacket from Make It Perfect). But ever since I got it into my head that I might be able to make clothes for my kids I’ve been coveting all the O+S patterns, they’re so adorable.
I actually just found Oliver + S this morning and I am really excited to try out some of the patterns. This pattern caught my eye and I thought it would be a great one for a new sewer like me so hopefully it can be mine!
At early high school I was busy making chiffon shirts and baby sailor while everyone elsecwas making pincushions and board shorts. I love a challenge :)
I haven’t used any Oliver + S before, although I have downloaded some of the free patterns. I’ve been dying to try some of their patterns, just no time! Would love this pattern to make a cut dress for my daughter!!
I haven’t used one of their patterns yet- but I too love them. I love the timeless look that they have. I also have a daughter that will ONLY WEAR DRESSES. So this would be perfect for us…
I’ve never made anything from Oliver + S, but their stuff is super cute!
Ooohh…would love to win this one! I have made several Oliver + S. I recently made the Sailboat outfit for my daughter for her first day of school, and I made the pants out of gray corduroy! (Good choice. ;0p)
I have never made an Oliver & S patter yet. The stuff up in the flickr pool is so inspiring! I can’t believe all that stuff people are getting done!
