kcwc: day three
September 22nd, 2010
Sorry, little behind schedule today because I went out with my wonderful husband to celebrate our anniversary last night, but I’m up an caffeinated now, and the winners of the big butt baby pants and the toddler back pack patterns have been announced!
Sometimes you don’t need anything fancy you just need a plain old pair of pants. These are made with some nice, heavy wide wale corduroy and I used the same pattern as these shorts I made, only longer. Of course they are too long and too big all over really, but the boy grows like a weed, so they might fit at the end of the winter. Still, he loves them (hence all the wrinkles) and now says gray is his favorite color–wonder who he got that from?
For today’s giveaway Liesl from Oliver + S has kindly offered their new Music Box Jumper pattern! I think everyone who sews children’s clothes is crazy for Oliver + S patterns. And how could you not be? They are beautifully designed, well written, and come with their own paper doll! The purl bee recently showed off a version of the Music Box Jumper in corduroy (liberty corduroy!) and it couldn’t be more perfect.
To enter the giveaway today, I’d love it if you tell us something about an Oliver + S project you’ve worked on or a story you have about working with patterns or even what has caught your eye in the flickr group so far. Good Luck!

Someone gave me the pajama pattern and I’ve made them for my 10 month old daughter in a darling rose print flannel.
Then I found out I was pregnant again (with a boy) and used the pants part of the p.j.s to make him two pairs of shorts and a pair of seersucker pants – with an improved rolled cuff. Too cute!
Now i’m totally in love with O+S patterns. :)
I love the car organizers that someone made on the flicker group…though I think it would only encourage my children to bring more in the car to fill the bags than to really organize the car:)
I’ve never sewed with Oliver+S, but have always wanted to try a pattern out. They all seem so well put together and the clothes are adorable.
I made the swing set tank top and it really turned out adorable and old-fashioned looking. Unfortunately, my daughter who usually loves pink refused to wear it all. Now, that it no longer fits her, she wants to wear it.
I LOVE Oliver + S patterns – they are so old school and gorgeous – so hard to pick a favourite- the jump rope dress, the sailboat pants, the sand box pants. And funnily enough, I stumbled across them because I have my own Oliver + S(ophie) xx PS Loving all the corduroy sewing!
I haven’t tried an O+S pattern yet but I am dying to! My daughter would really love a jumper like that!
I have not had the opportunity to try one of these patterns. Boy would I love to!
I’m getting ready to start on the sketchbook shirt! Collars and buttons and plackets OH MY!
I have absolutely no experience sewing with Oliver + S patterns which is precisely why I need to win this giveaway! I have been told by so many people how wonderfully written they are!!
I haven’t had the pleasure to use/sew with an Oliver + S pattern yet but judging by everyone’s comments I’m definately missing out (will have to change that). There are so many amazing outfits on the flick group but two that stand out at the moment are Made by Rae’s reversible green jumper and Natalie’s Baby-in-the-hood jacket – love ’em!
It was hard to pick my favorite thing in the flicker pool but I loved the t-shirt from momma turtle, with the turtle on it. It is so my son’s style. He would love me to make something for him like that.
I haven’t actually sewn up one of her patterns, but I have picked out fabrics. Maybe I should actually sew it up this week!
What cute pants. Can’t beat corduroy. LOVE them. I haven’t actually used an Oliver + S pattern, but want to so badly. Just came across a dots and crabs pj top, made from the Oliver + S Bedtime Story PJ top pattern. SO cute. LOVE the fabric, and would LOVE to try the pattern. Here’s to winning this giveaway!
One of my favorite Items in the flicker group is this dress http://www.flickr.com/photos/20887496@N05/5011365495/in/pool-1293871@N23/
I love the colors and the simple design.
This is my first time hearing of Oliver + S, but after visiting their website, I’d like to try all of their patterns! So cute! I love the Baby in the Hood Jacket http://www.flickr.com/photos/oldgeorgiahouse/5015898879/in/pool-1293871@N23. What a fun mix of patterns, and I’m going to go look for those buttons!
I have the Spring issue of Stitch that includes an Oliver + S pattern. I didn’t get around to making it yet but it’s definitely on my list. Right now I’m working on getting some pattern pieces traced out of an Ottobre sent to me by a kind friend.
I just finished matching Sketchbook Shirts for my boys. For the rocket-loving 3 3/4-year-old, a “countdown and blast off” shirt with rockets all over it. For the less picky, mama-gets-to-pick-the-fabric 7-month-old, an orange and blue seahorse fabric by Heather Ross. Love, love, love the boys in their shirts – I wish they’d stay this size for a while, for lots of reasons! :)
I need to pull out my bubble dress pattern!
I love o&s patterns! They are so well written and I always learn something even though I consider myself a fairly advanced seamstress. Plus you always end up with beautiful project, something better then what you could every buy in a store!
I’ve never sewn with Oliver + S, but I would love to try! I loved the hooded cape that was added to the FLickr group!
i love the school photo dress and have three girls waiting for their dresses! the pattern should arrive soon. can’t wait…
I made the Ice Cream top for my daughter on Monday night – haven’t posted it yet, but I will! I’ve sewn this top before, along with the 2+2 blouse, the Music Class blouse, and the pajamas. All of their patterns are wonderful.
I spent the day before chirstmas last year sewing 2 sets of the PJs for my childen to wear on christmas eve!! they turned out perfectly, and have made the jammie pants MANY times since then! always a hit. this looks like another winner for fall and winter!
Oh I would LOVE LOVE LOVE and Oliver + S pattern!!! I just started sewing this year and have never actually tried to sew from a pattern! Can you believe that?! I just make my own, because I’m totally intimidated by all the new sewing terms in any store bought patterns I’ve opened. BUT I’ve heard that Oliver + S patterns are super easy to follow and oh my goodness could they be any cuter?!
Please, please, please let me try!
I made a great pair of Oliver + S sandbox pants for my son Oliver. I know, nice name, eh? I just found a pair of thick wool pants at the thrift store. I cut them up and plan to make another pair, lined, for this winter. Hoping this works. Such cute and easy patterns.
I adore working with all their patterns.
Cheers,
Meg
