The spring kids clothes week challenge has come and gone and what an awesome week it was! Look at all the amazing sewing you did in just a week! I tried to make a garment a day and got a little overwhelmed in the end. I should have stuck to the challenge and aimed for an hour a day. It’s that little nudge that makes me fall in love with sewing again–the manic sew until 2 in the morning is what burns me out :) But you, you listened to the challenge and quietly chugged along on that machine and turned out some stunning kids clothes. No princesses or googly eyed cartoon characters in sight. Instead you used beautiful colors and bold patterns and simple, stylish silhouettes. Do you hear that, giant kid clothes maker corporation? This is what mothers want their kids to wear!

Every kcwc seems to top the last and this one was made even better by my May sponsors! I am proud to be able to show off all of these wonderful indie shops and blogs. And I would love it if you could visit one or two. It is you (and me) who need to support small, independent businesses, because this is our community. A virtual community, but a loving supportive community nonetheless. And after this week, we know first hand how much work goes into all the designing and drafting and sewing and making! We don’t need Mr. Giant Corporation, we have each other.
For all of you that participated, I have a little surprise. Tell me a little something you liked (or didn’t like) about kcwc this year, or something you made that you were particularly proud of, or how you flaked out completely after that first hour, or what you are already planning for fall, and you will be entered to win one of two prizes: the fantastic Charlie Tunic pattern by Rae and the fantabulous I Love Paris doll kit by Erika. I’ll announce the winner Friday May 20.Extended until Monday May 23 (5pm CST). Good Luck! And thank you so much for making another amazing KCWC!
I love Kids Clothes Week! It’s a blast to see what everyone’s sewing up and all the inspiration is awesome! I also got a little burned out finishing one piece a day, but it was still so fun and really got me excited about some new designs! I like that there are NO prizes too! No pressure, just collaboration and admiration. Thank you SO much for doing this Meg!
I love the inspiration! Those golf shorts are just too cute. I have had my eye on the Charlie Tunic for a while.
I only managed two pairs of pants for my kids- which I sewed up on the first day then got busy with work. I have loved seeing all the gorgeous clothes being made and finding new pattern designers to try- now I have a big list of things I want to make and patterns to use so I’ll be busy for months!
All the inspiration is what I love about KCWC!
I was a flaker.
I managed to sew a beautiful top for my daughter in two nights, would have been quicker if I hadn’t stuck with my decision to use only notions at hand (it is time-consuming to pair random vintage bits with modern fabric and pattern). And that was it. I knew I had hardly any time – I am taking an editing certificate program at a local university and things are wrapping up. And still, I signed up because last year I had so much fun (we were away one whole day and I sewed a hat by hand that day!). I do have a pair of shorts cut out and some patterns traced and paired with fabric, all is not lost. Things will still get sewn. I just didn’t manage to do it during this week.
This was my first time to participate in kcwc and I really enjoyed seeing all the other creations and getting ideas for patterns. I also appreciate the elsie marley pininterest suggestions for tutorials/patterns on sewing kids clothes. It gave me a ton of great references. Thanks for the giveaway.
I managed one little pair of pants. I was hoping to bust out quite a bit more, but it just ended up being a crazy week- the light switch in the room where I sew even went out. No light!
I loved all the pdf patterns you rounded up and, of course, all of the tutorials. So much good stuff out there!
All of this sewing actually has me thinking about the holidays, about busting out some gifts now to put away for Christmas.
Thanks for organizing!!
I was totally over-ambitious at the start of the challenge and had a HUGE list of stuff I wanted to make. I think that actually set me back a bit bc the first night of the challenge, I didn’t really feel like sewing (overwhelmed perhaps). So I changed my goals and managed to crank out 3 clothing items (one for my son which I’m super happy about), and a couple of little fun gifts for friends. Feeling good about what I accomplished and am looking forward to the next challenge! Thanks so much for organizing this!
I am so proud of how much I sewed this year! I made several more things than I’d planned, even with two full days when I couldn’t sew (and I didn’t sew on the weekend either).
Unfortunately, I didn’t find out about it until the very last day….Sad face etc etc….But I am still inspired by all the gorgeous duds everyone created! I love knowing other mamas and daddies are making their kids beautiful handmade clothing.
I loved seeing what everyone made! I only managed a fall jacket for my kindergartener (*sniff), but I hope to finish many of the things I started soon!
I loved looking at what everyone else made and especially loved your comment about how we don’t need cartoon characters and big box stores when we have each other. I have gotten so much inspiration to keep moving forward for the summer!

I was so excited about KCWC because my children desperately need new winter clothes BUT then I realised we’d be away on a driving trip for almost the whole week. I did manage to make a couple of pairs of trousers, though, and seeing the beautiful things that other people made during the week has inspired me to keep going even now KCWC is over.
Wow! That’s me up there! Blush.
