kids clothes week challenge: day 2
May 11th, 2010
If I were the kind of person who planned ahead even a little I would have had a week of posts with beautifully photographed clothes with finished hems that I had made for my children ready to go. Instead you get a hurried shot of this muscle shirt with a raw edge (I hate hemming!) on a rainy day before school. The shirt is made from the wildly popular 90 minute shirt tutorial by Dana. Only I left off the sleeves and sewed ribbing around the armholes and blazzam! the 30 minute muscle shirt is born. It turned out well, I think. He looks a little like he’s about to go out and race lawnmowers, but that might just be the camo pants.

The flickr group is blowing up with all kinds of amazing clothes. Go check it out! Oh and in case you want to add to your already too long to sew list (like mine) Jennifer from JCasa handmade created a super cute and super quick sundress pattern that you can find here on sew mama sew. I bet you could make it in an hour!
umm – i’m totally stealing your muscle shirt idea. after spending time basting sleeves into a 90-minute-shirt, i could go for a sleeveless version. and what baby boy wouldn’t look adorable in a muscle shirt?
thanks for the challenge – i haven’t been this motivated in forever!
Love it! Thanks again for such a great inspiring challenge!
These are so cute! Thanks for the challenge; I am trying my best to find time throughout the morning and evening.
Is there an easy place to start when you are just beginning to make clothes? I really want to start making things for my 2 little guys, but have no experience (I do have a machine, though).
My day 1 was a smashing success, and day 2 is going great! The last few times I’ve sewed, I’ve kind of hated it, and this week has been thoroughly enjoyable so far. Yay!
Hannah, I think pants would be a super-easy place to start. There are several tutorials to make them out of bandannas (I used to sell them, they are super-cute), which is even easier because there are no raw edges.
Okay-thanks so much!
There are some outstanding clothes on your Flickr page. I had so much fun last night visiting new blogs. Have 2 kids off sick today but am hoping to still get some sewing in! Thanks for a great challenge!
Ok so whats the trick to get picks into that Flickr thing? I´m doing my best to keep up with the challenge…
have fun sewing
Ane
You mean like planning ahead and organising a challenge like this?
The t-shirt is beautiful and for me this challenge is about sewing every day for our kids – even if its a little. Tonight (its 11pm over here right now) I didn’t feel like doing very much, but this is Kids Clothes Week challenge so I made some pants and enjoyed it. If I manage to get a little photoshoot in before taking them to school tomorrow there’ll even be a photo.
Honored and amused to see the photo of my dangling, bemused baby in his half-finished pants up here! I am so excited about this week, and the momentum I hope it gives me to finish more projects for him in the quiet moments that hide in our busy days and nights. Thanks!
[…] wraps up day two of the Kids Clothes week challenge. Still to come are some skirts and maybe even a couple aprons! […]
so cool! I’m glad you’re not the kind of plan ahead person, I think it makes it more interesting that way. :)
Thanks for the motivation! This is fun!
I’m so envious of this challenge. I’m still in the midst of teaching kindergarten and just don’t have the extra time to devote. Maybe I’ll be a late bloomer and jump on the bandwagon this summer.
Better late to the party than never arriving, right?
thanks for keeping it real.
I love the muscle shirt.
That looks great! I have never sewn with a ‘knit’ t-shirt fabric, must give it a try sometime.
Its crazy! I have that same vintage bedsheet as the dress in the top left corner!
Cute little boys stuff.
Oh and you say “lawn mower racing” like its a bad thing…. :p
i love the boys shirt. i so need to get to that tutorial.
i am so glad you are not that kind of person! xoxox
Okay I love it without the sleeves. Totally cool idea. And totally cool in the fabric.
Your kids week is AWESOME.
