kids clothes week challenge: fall 2010
September 7th, 2010
After the resounding sucess of last spring’s kids clothes week challenge there was a call to have another when the temperatures cooled off a bit and I am glad to oblige. The challenge will stay the same:
For one hour each day the week of September 20-26 work on making clothes for kids.
I’m going to soup it up a bit with a giveaway or two and maybe even a tutorial (if my camera is fixed by then). Mostly, though, it should be just like last time with scads of people sewing like crazy for their kids. If you didn’t participate last time or are on the fence this time, imagine what it would be like to have 200 people cheering you on and well, that’s what it felt like in the spring. Just by working a little each day for one week you could have a beautiful winter coat made or all the christmas pajamas done or finally made something from that cute fabric you have been saving. Doesn’t that sound awesome?
I think most of us focused on sewing (and all the pattern tracing, fabric cutting, pinning, hemming and ironing that go with it) in the spring, but I don’t see why knitting and crocheting can’t count–though they are much slower going, so you can’t really be sure you will have a finished product at the end of the week, but then again, maybe the sewers can’t either! Warmer clothes can be a little more involved, but really pants are just long shorts–and I know you can make shorts. There was a fine showing of fall fashions from the southern hemisphere last time, so no whining that fall clothes take too long.
O.k. enough of me talking, time to sign up! Leave your name in the comments if you want to play along this fall. Feel free to take a button for your blog (you don’t have to have a blog to participate of course) and spread the word.

Sounds fun, I’m in!
I’m in! Last time around I had mono and completely missed out. I’m *nearly* recovered so looking forward to some sewing time. And it’s perfect timing for getting my daughter’s summer wardrobe sorted (us Southern Hemisphere mums might have an easier job with sundresses instead of winter coats!).
I’m in! I’d love to get a jump on Christmas nightgowns for my 3 little girls. I bought the fabric and pattern for LAST YEAR but totally ran out of time. Going to go and launder all 15,000 (ok, 6) yards of xmas plaid flannel right now so I’m all ready!
How exciting! Count me in – although I am going to be making summer dresses not winter coats :)
count me in! I followed along last year and this year I have a sewing machine, hooray! (‘cept I’m in Australia so will be sewing spring clothes, hope that’s OK!!)
Okay, I’m in…..I’m nervous! Not sure what I’ll make, but would love to participate in this. I think it will help motivate me.
Am I allowed to make clothes for my big kid (a.k.a. Mr. Homesteader), since we only have furkids at home and they don’t need clothes? May I make those fall pillows for the sofa I’d been planning on doing?
Both of my skinny kids need pants – I’m joining! It’s a busy time but lets see what I can fit in!
Just the motivation I needed to get the new studio in order!
Please count me in and thank you for orgainzing!
I’m in. I might need to feign illness or something to sneak in some sewing, but I have so many kids clothes that I want to make right now, that I’d be daft to pass up the extra motivation of KCWC…
Yes!! I just picked up Tee for two. I’m ready!
This is the type of challenge that will hopefully get me motivated since I’ve been in a sewing rut since Labor Day.
I’m in !
This sounds like fun! looking forward to it!
oh, i so want to do this. surely i can squeeze in the time :) thanks!
I’m in and will actually do it this time – unlike in the spring when I got caught up in finalizing our adoption.
I’m in! I JUST started a blog and this will give me lots of things to post about! thanks!!!
OK!! I’m in… (EEK!)
Thanks so much for organizing this challenge. I really need this motivation and inspiration.
Cheers!
I’m going to really try, with the following disclaimers:
1. I have a newborn and a 4year old who’s just started school. My life has probably never been busier. I’ll either fail on day 1, OR the hour I insist on taking for myself will do me the power of good.
2. I suck at sewing.
I’m in! I have a TON of knits to make t-shirts and pj’s for the girls and boys. I have to replace the ones they’ve rubbed the knees out of :o)
OK, I’m in! Now to make a trip to the fabric store! I could actually finish Halloween costumes and Christmas pyjamas before October 30/december 24!
I feel for you Sarah–I have four little ones in tow (including a 6 week old!). I’m probably crazy for giving this a go, but the worst I could do is try! I’ll be posting my progress on my blog–I’d love for you all to stop by!
I recently discovered this blog, bookmarked it, looked at it lots but have felt nervous to commit. Anyway, here goes – I’m in – hooray!
[…] September 14, 2010 by Courtney Meg at Elsie Marley is once again organizing the Kids Clothes Week Challenge and this time I am actually going to attempt to sew along instead of merely ooohing and aaahing […]
Here’s hoping I sew along! I’ve been working on a list of fall items for the kiddos this week.
