zakka style
February 21st, 2012
Rashida (of I heart Linen fame) contacted me a long while back to see if I would contribute to her new book, Zakka Style. Of course I said yes! I remade this project, so I could fix the pattern and change the colors a bit. I never did get around to making and selling these pocket pillowcases, but yay for my laziness because now you can make them!
The pattern really is quite easy and makes for a lovely gift. The diamonds are fiddly, I won’t lie, but you could skip them and sew any sort of patchwork your heart desires. The whole book is filled with simple and clever little things to make. And they are designed by some of my favorite people: Holly, Amanda, Leslie, and a good deal more.
I actually made two projects for the book, but the second one didn’t make the cut. Remember this towel I made? Well, I reworked that project as well: a little bigger, nicer patchwork, and in linen. This continuous towel doesn’t fit in my bathroom and though it does look kind of nice in my kitchen, I think it would look better in yours.
That’s right, a little giveaway for this Tuesday: Zakka Style and a zakka stylish linen towel. To enter yourselves in this giveaway, I would like it if you’d answer a question for me. How do you read blogs? Do you use google reader, links from facebook, twitter, flickr, pinterest, old fashioned bookmarks, something else entirely? I want elsie marley to be easily accessible to all of you, which is easier if I know how you are all accessing it :)
psst: if the answer is facebook, well wouldn’t you know elsie marley’s got a facebook page.
Ok so leave your answer before Thursday Feb. 23 at 9am and I’ll let the robots do the picking. This giveaway is open to all my lovely readers, no matter where you live. Good luck!
The giveaway is closed!
I’d love to win your giveaway! I have so many favorite bookmarks to check on, and they often lead me far afield so I create more and more categories. It always amazes me how many talented and creative people are out there everywhere in all parts of the world. I’m new to all this, but just keep finding links to such interesting crafts and ideas.

Gorgeous stuff!
I keep most of the blogs I like as links on my own little blog. That way, when I open that up, I can see who has updated and check in. I often follow links through other blogs I like, too. My list changes from time to time as new blogs are added, some are left behind, and sometimes when my interests shift. I found yours through the sewing challenge links on other blogs, and I’ve kept coming back ever since. :)
I use google reader’s next button … I love that the button takes me to the blogs that have new posts up!
What a lovely towel! And I think I might have to make that pillowcase for my son to keep his hankies from getting lost every night… not quite as cute as a softie, but practical! To answer your question, I read my blogs through my google reader.
I prefer to read in Google Reader. BTW, congrats on being in another book!
I read your blog when the new post comes directly into my email inbox. It’s a no-brainer for me – I don’t have to remember to check the blog, it just appears before my very eyes.
D’oh! Continuous towel — that’s what I need so my 5 year doesn’t keep dumping it on the floor! Thanks for that bit of inspiration.
As for blogs, I keep a reading list on blogger for update notices but I like to go to the actual blog to read posts. I’d miss seeing the headers and such if I didn’t.
Jump from link to link, if I find one I like will subscribe via email, even join, if offered. Flickr is a way that I always find something NEW!
Congrats on your publication Meg! I follow my favorite blogs through a combination of reader/facebook/blog roll links–always enjoy seeing the lovely projects on yours! Also following you on Instagram now–love seeing all the little extras, too!
I mostly use old fashioned bookmarks. And I’m so out of if I didn’t even know bookmarks were old fashioned! I do also like the email subscription option. This looks like a great book…love your projects!
COngratulations on the book!! :-) and thanks for the giveaway; this lovely book is on my wish list. I read mostly by e-mail, so I subscribe to the newsletter. It’s the easiest way for me.
I just want to tell you that I love that towel and wish you would show us all how you did it…I could make some of those for my bathroom, kitchen, wherever. They are so lovely. Also, I lovelovelove your pillow case design….I am still waiting to catch the FedEx man so I can get my hands on my copy of the book!
I look forward to your emails to read your blog! Lately, twitter has been directing me to the blogs I read most.
My sister introduced me to google reader and wow, how much nicer that is. Especially since my list of blogs to read keeps getting longer.

I use pretty much all the things you listed except old-fashioned bookmarks. Probably I come through google reader most often though.
oh my, what a LOVELY giveaway! that towel would solve some messes in the kitchen – tearing the towels off my oven and trailing them all over the house is my 18 month old’s favorite pasttime. :) i read blogs through Google reader. love your sewing creations. cheers!
