zakka style
February 21st, 2012
Rashida (of I heart Linen fame) contacted me a long while back to see if I would contribute to her new book, Zakka Style. Of course I said yes! I remade this project, so I could fix the pattern and change the colors a bit. I never did get around to making and selling these pocket pillowcases, but yay for my laziness because now you can make them!
The pattern really is quite easy and makes for a lovely gift. The diamonds are fiddly, I won’t lie, but you could skip them and sew any sort of patchwork your heart desires. The whole book is filled with simple and clever little things to make. And they are designed by some of my favorite people: Holly, Amanda, Leslie, and a good deal more.
I actually made two projects for the book, but the second one didn’t make the cut. Remember this towel I made? Well, I reworked that project as well: a little bigger, nicer patchwork, and in linen. This continuous towel doesn’t fit in my bathroom and though it does look kind of nice in my kitchen, I think it would look better in yours.
That’s right, a little giveaway for this Tuesday: Zakka Style and a zakka stylish linen towel. To enter yourselves in this giveaway, I would like it if you’d answer a question for me. How do you read blogs? Do you use google reader, links from facebook, twitter, flickr, pinterest, old fashioned bookmarks, something else entirely? I want elsie marley to be easily accessible to all of you, which is easier if I know how you are all accessing it :)
psst: if the answer is facebook, well wouldn’t you know elsie marley’s got a facebook page.
Ok so leave your answer before Thursday Feb. 23 at 9am and I’ll let the robots do the picking. This giveaway is open to all my lovely readers, no matter where you live. Good luck!
The giveaway is closed!
I like to use links from facebook. Wish I knew what google reader is. I’m kind of behind there. Very cute book! I would love to win it :).
I use Google reader, and if there’s something I want to bookmark for future reference, I’m starting to pin things more often now on Pinterest. Lovely giveaway, thanks for the chance to win!
I just subscribe and read through email. I may consider switchingt to google reader though.
I have to admit I use google reader, bookmarks, and e-mail subscriptions. It just depends on the blog… oh and you have a FB now??? Hmm I do believe I might have to check it out!
I read them in my email inbox (GMAIL). Unless I want to respond and then I come right to the blog! ;)
usually on google reader – though it’s nice to hop over to the prettier blogs once in a while. [*old fashioned* bookmarks, haha]
love the towel!!
Your blog is on my RSS feed. If your blog name is in bold I know you have posted something new since I last visited. Nice giveaway!
bookmarks are old fashioned? Oops, well that’s what I use
Yeah, I’m a new fan of the fb page! I prefer to subscribe to blogs through email, that way i can read them as i get time. Someone this doesn’t seem as pesky to me as in Google reader where i never get a chance to catch up on my favour blocs.
Hi! I read all my blogs through Google Reader. (And then pop over to the actual blogs to check out sponsors and to comment.) I’m also getting sucked into Pinterest so I’ll have to go check out your boards. And your towel would be a lovely way to foil my husband’s ongoing attempts to remove the kitchen towel from the oven!
Hi — I just discovered your blog last week and subscribed yesterday. Then, yesterday my Amazon order of Zakka Style arrived (here in Australia)(as well as a bunch of other craft books) and now you are posting about it and that you are in it! Must be fate! Love your blog.
Cheers,
Fleur
Mainly – memory. I use pinterest and FB but am overwhelmed often. There are so many great people to follow, my feed gets out of control. I know the URLs of my favorite blogs and type them in daily to check.
Pretty old school for someone who is tech savvy, but I like it that way.
Hi Meg, thanks for a great giveaway!! I read via my Google reader daily, but if I want to see images or follow links (or enter giveaways lol) I go straight to the source. Now that you are on FB, I will need to Like you there, too :-)
good old fashioned bookmarks….it works for me. i love your blog- you make the loveliest things.
I use google reader, either on my iPhone, or with a “next” button on the iPad or computer – that way I get to see the real site. Great book, great projects.
I read my blog updates via email subscriptions! Some rss feeds, but mostly emails. a bunch of emails…. Love the pillow pocket!
Straight into my e-mail inbox ;) Thank you for the giveaway opportunity!
I use Netvibes, I love that the blogs can be arranged in tabs and tiles, can be accessed from any computer with internet, and it also shows which of the blogs have a new post so I can drill into it. If a blog does not provide Feeds, I subscribe and read over email.
Thank you, I enjoy your blog.
I am very old fashioned I guess. I have my favourites marked in categories (you’re under Craft) and then I just refer to them when the fancy takes me.
I use Google Reader, and when something is really visual I pin it on Pinterest for easy access and sharing. Brilliant giveaway, by the way!
Love the towel and it would look awesome in my kitchen. hehe.
My answer is all of the above. I have alot of blogs on Google Reader and GFC. I just discovered BlogLovin as some blogs are losing GFC. I’m usually using my iPhone and BlogLovin has an app which makes reading and commenting very easy. I also get some blogs via email and then go to the site to comment. I only started reading blogs last summer (when I came out of my cave, hehe) so I’m still finding what way works best.
Thanks so much for the cute giveaway and a chance to win.

Would love to win!!
I keep up with your blog and others via google reader. Mostly while nursing my littlest one!
I use old fashioned bookmarks!
Love, love, love this giveaway!
I like the old quiet atmosphere before twitter and fb explosions so I didn’t subscribed to them; I simply follow my fav blogs via my blogger reading list and bookmarks. I have to confess also that I love checking on Pinterest bloggers ‘boards for its immediate approach; I think it’s a great source for inspiration and new ideas.
Thank you in advance for the chance!
Hi! I am a big fan! Normally I use traditional bookmakers on Mozilla, but now I discover you have facebook, I’m going to check the news via facebook. Thanks for inspiration!
