zakka style
February 21st, 2012
Rashida (of I heart Linen fame) contacted me a long while back to see if I would contribute to her new book, Zakka Style. Of course I said yes! I remade this project, so I could fix the pattern and change the colors a bit. I never did get around to making and selling these pocket pillowcases, but yay for my laziness because now you can make them!
The pattern really is quite easy and makes for a lovely gift. The diamonds are fiddly, I won’t lie, but you could skip them and sew any sort of patchwork your heart desires. The whole book is filled with simple and clever little things to make. And they are designed by some of my favorite people: Holly, Amanda, Leslie, and a good deal more.
I actually made two projects for the book, but the second one didn’t make the cut. Remember this towel I made? Well, I reworked that project as well: a little bigger, nicer patchwork, and in linen. This continuous towel doesn’t fit in my bathroom and though it does look kind of nice in my kitchen, I think it would look better in yours.
That’s right, a little giveaway for this Tuesday: Zakka Style and a zakka stylish linen towel. To enter yourselves in this giveaway, I would like it if you’d answer a question for me. How do you read blogs? Do you use google reader, links from facebook, twitter, flickr, pinterest, old fashioned bookmarks, something else entirely? I want elsie marley to be easily accessible to all of you, which is easier if I know how you are all accessing it :)
psst: if the answer is facebook, well wouldn’t you know elsie marley’s got a facebook page.
Ok so leave your answer before Thursday Feb. 23 at 9am and I’ll let the robots do the picking. This giveaway is open to all my lovely readers, no matter where you live. Good luck!
The giveaway is closed!
i’m old school – bookmarks for me.
Through e-mail, facebook and the old fashioned bookmarks.
I read blogs on Google Reader at home or Feeddler on my Iphone. I don’t tweet but occasionally follow a link on facebook or pinterest.
Old school bookmarks.
I like it when craft bloggers let you know on FB that they have a new post, but theblogs get checked daily and when possible I “follow” them so that it shows up on google reader. Would be thrilled to win!!
I am so old school but I still read my blogs in my inbox. If I don’t, then I don’t take the time to look through them all, so this way I can let all of the posts sit there until I have time to get lost in my blogs.
(oh, and yes, sometimes the pictures on a quick run through facebook drag me in, even if it’s still in my inbox!)
That is a really cute pillow and I do like the tea towel/design as well.
I use google reader and also my trusty old fashioned bookmarks. Congratulations on being a contributor to the book, it doesn’t surprise me though as I do enjoy reading your blog and looking at all the amazing things you create.
I found you through pintrest and just put you on a bookmark. Though I’m new to the blog reading :)
Looks like a great book! And such a useful little towel.
I get your blog delivered by email… But often see the post earlier when pics are posted on pinterest.
I tried google reader, but the aesthetics of all the blogs I read was lost, and isn’t the layout, etc., a big part of why we read blogs such as yours? I have all my favorite blogs in a folder in my bookmarks…each morning I open all as tabs, and simply sit back with my coffee and click away.
I use Google reader as well. It is much easier to keep up with what I have read and what I haven’t. The book looks lovely!
I just bookmark it!
Been subscribing by email because for some stupid reason I only just now found the RSS feed link. So now you’re RSSed, and I’ll be reading future posts in my Opera browser/RSS feed reader.
Ah! I’ve heard how great this book is, and didn’t know you were in it! Congrats!
I’d love to win, the way i navigate is either bookmarks or my daily favorites, (you and Aesthetic Outburst), i just type in. Thanks for the opportunity.
What a fun giveaway!
I read blogs through google reader, although there are certain ones I go straight to, just because they’re so pretty. :-)
I use bookmarks…..until pinterest came along….but I came back to my bookmarks…..
: )
I use Google Reader / Reeder app on my iPhone. Congratulations on having a project in the book, it looks so lovely. And thanks for the giveaway, I’d love to have that towel in my kitchen!
I’m all about google reader so that I never miss posts. Occasionally I follow links from Facebook, but my morning reader and coffee is one of my favorite times of the day!
Great job on your contribution. I read from my email on my phone and I visit directly when I am on desktop.
Thanks for the giveaway.

I use Google reader and I always travel around from blog to blog. I LOVE my blog reading time!
Congratulations on the book too! It looks lovely.
Generally bookmarks but sometimes Google Reader. I don’t Twitter and don’t use Facebook for blog things. I loved the first Zakka book, looking forward to this one!
I read everything in Google Reader. Though sometimes I click out to read on the actual blog site, but mostly just in Reader.
I’ve got a list of my favorite blogs listed on the side of my blog, so I take the time to go through them that way. A few I subscribe to, so I read through email, which is really nice.
LOVE the Zakka project. LOVE the continuous towel. Looks like a GREAT book. Hope I win!
I am old-fashioned…using my trusty bookmark system along with a hint of updated technology w/ Facebook and of course, email. Like to have my bases all covered for the ‘home run’….YOU! ;-)
