zakka style
February 21st, 2012
Rashida (of I heart Linen fame) contacted me a long while back to see if I would contribute to her new book, Zakka Style. Of course I said yes! I remade this project, so I could fix the pattern and change the colors a bit. I never did get around to making and selling these pocket pillowcases, but yay for my laziness because now you can make them!
The pattern really is quite easy and makes for a lovely gift. The diamonds are fiddly, I won’t lie, but you could skip them and sew any sort of patchwork your heart desires. The whole book is filled with simple and clever little things to make. And they are designed by some of my favorite people: Holly, Amanda, Leslie, and a good deal more.
I actually made two projects for the book, but the second one didn’t make the cut. Remember this towel I made? Well, I reworked that project as well: a little bigger, nicer patchwork, and in linen. This continuous towel doesn’t fit in my bathroom and though it does look kind of nice in my kitchen, I think it would look better in yours.
That’s right, a little giveaway for this Tuesday: Zakka Style and a zakka stylish linen towel. To enter yourselves in this giveaway, I would like it if you’d answer a question for me. How do you read blogs? Do you use google reader, links from facebook, twitter, flickr, pinterest, old fashioned bookmarks, something else entirely? I want elsie marley to be easily accessible to all of you, which is easier if I know how you are all accessing it :)
psst: if the answer is facebook, well wouldn’t you know elsie marley’s got a facebook page.
Ok so leave your answer before Thursday Feb. 23 at 9am and I’ll let the robots do the picking. This giveaway is open to all my lovely readers, no matter where you live. Good luck!
The giveaway is closed!
google reader mostly – a few saved to my homepage screen. I generally ind something I like through pinterest, craftgawker, links from other blogs, etc. and then follow through google.
I’m just an old-fashioned girl who uses bookmarks. (fingers crossed and thanks for the chance!)
Honestly, I only go to three blogs regularly (this is one of them) and I just type in the web address.
Good old bookmarks for me!
i use google reader, but also keep an eye out on facebook too. thanks for the chance to win!
google reader/apple mail
I use google reader and find new blogs from blogs I follow and flickr photos. Thanks for sharing.
Bookmarks! And yours is the first one!
I read most of them through a blogroll I keep on the side on my own blog, and through draughting off other people’s blogrolls. I have a few bookmarks but keep very little in my RSS reader. I’m kinda all over the place.
I was mostly just following blogs on Facebook until like two weeks ago when i finally figured out what google reader was about…ahhh love it…so between FB and Google reader I would say. Thanks for the chance to win.
I read a lot of blogs so I keep up with google reader. I don’t tend to use facebook (partly ’cause it’s blocked at my work) and haven’t gotten bitten by the twitter bug. I do also use flickr and pinterest which links to blogs. Thanks for the chance to win :)
I read blogs through Google reader
I utilize my patented blog priority system.
1. These are the bloggers I need to read – they are the most awesome. These are on the top menu bar.
2. Next cut – I want to know if you posted and I know you usually have something to say – goes into Google Reader which pops up on my google homepage.
3. Interesting – deciding if I am interested; these get bookmarked over at the side of the top menu bar.
4. Tutorials I need for ‘someday’ get the regular bookmark.
5. facebook posts; still deciding. It’s sometimes too easy to overlook a posting because of the facebook clutter. I do post mine to facebook as some people read my blog more from there.
I think you have to offer options. I still have friends who prefer a telephone call over a text over an e-mail.
I would love to win this book – thank you for the giveaway. I’ve made two of the projects so far in this book.
I have most blogs that I like bookmarked and just read through them about once a week.
I read blogs via google reader! Thanks for the giveaway!
Old fashioned bookmarks for me! Thanks for the opportunity to win.
I use old fashioned bookmarks! Thanks for the chance!
I mostly use google reader but I do have a few that I follow on facebook ( including this one and Rashida’s), both methods work for me.
i use google reader mostly and i have a couple bookmarked as well.
I use my blogroll–fancy stuff! Your towel is super cute!
I use old fashioned bookmarks. I love the little critter in the pocket pillow, in the book picture. :)
I have a list that I have booked marked, otherwise i use flickr or my main way of finding awesome blogs to read is on craft sites such as Craftgawker or One Little Thing.
so exciting!!

Oh boy do I ever read blogs, LOL. For some reason, I still haven’t got the reader thing down yet. For the most part (the ones I really like, like yours), if there is a subscribe by email option, I do that. It really fills up my inbox, but since posts are usually small, no biggie. Plus, like that it’s just easier for me to keep up with blogs both on my pc and iphone. I usually click through to the blog if the post is incomplete but to my liking or if I’m really interested in comments.
Other blogs I really like that don’t have that I option, I try to remember to check in every now and again.
Fingers crossed I win! I never one anything…
ooops, just realised I’m too late. Oh well, better luck next time I guess!
I always did like that pocket pillow idea! Congrats on it being in the book. As for where I read, I still have my old bloglines account. For my bestest buds I use fb, but I’m selective there and don’t want my page filled with stuff so I keep the bulk of my blog reading separate. That way I don’t have to keep up daily and when I want to just do some blog reading I can.
