The weekend went by too fast, but at least the breakfasts were nice.

Turns out that when you have a blog you start doing bizarre things like taking pictures of the sardines you bought. But then again, you never know when you will be inspired. And it might be in the canned fish isle in your slightly depressing grocery store at 10 oāclock at night. I was thinking I might try to make my mobile out of paper and this little sardine box may even play a role, but I may chicken out and just sew something instead. Speaking of mobiles, Leah from leahglass.blogspot.com has kindly offered to help all those out who may have questions about mobile constructionāI havenāt got to the construction part yet, but Iām a little nervous thinking about it. You can email her directly or go the discussions in the mobile swap group on flickr and ask questions there. Leah is an artist who makes lovely mobiles out of glass. If you are involved in the mobile swap she is offering a two for one deal on the mobiles in her etsy shop. Just type in āmobile swap participantā in the notes to seller box. So go take a look. And Iād love to see what others are inspired by these daysāpost a picture on your blog or just leave a comment.

Iāve finally come out of my extended couch hibernation and started sewing last night. Sewing things for the shop to boot! You can see pieces of a couple different
diggers above. I was really excited about making a patchwork digger, but it has proved to be a royal pain in the ass, so it may stay in pieces for a while. Thank you for all your motivating comments on the last post! It really did the trick (the cupcakes my husband brought home didnāt hurt either). And thank you for all your comments in general. It amazes me that people take time out of their busy day just to say nice things about what I have made. You have made me work harder and make nicer things than I thought I couldāhell I probably would still be on the couch if it wasnāt for you. I used to only get one or two comments and would reply to each, but now that more people are reading this little blog itās a bit too much. So from now on Iāll try to answer all your questions in the comment section, okay? If you leave your blog address, Iāll be sure to visit, because I canāt get over how huge and varied this crafty community is! Okay thatās enough, I always hated reading these kind of posts before I had a blog (but I didnāt know how grateful I would be because of a few kind words). So THANK YOU! now tell me what youāre working on.

The mobile swap is officially closed. Over 100 people signed up to participate, which was completely unexpected and a little overwhelming. I had a system in place to match everyone up with partners (those who wanted baby mobiles and those who wanted to make them and vice versa) but it was not without flaws, so if there is anyone out there who didnāt get a partner or has some other concern please email me and I will try to sort it out. I set up a
flickr group for the mobile and there are only 25 members, so get over there and sign up. Everyone wants to see the cool mobiles you are making.
I have an idea for a mobile that I am pretty excited about, but I can not get moving. I have a great new studio, but itās in the basement and it is so. damn. cold. down there. Shit itās cold up hereāI think itās maybe 5 degrees outside. The picture is of one of the shelves (
hereās another) above my sinkāI am actually washing dishes to keep my hands warm these days. I need some sort of kick in the pants to get sewing again. What do you do when all you can do is think of great ideas, but not get around to actually doing any of them?

Today is the last day to sign up for the mobile swap! Almost 100 amazingly talented people have signed up from around the world already. So if you still would like to make and receive a mobile please email me at elsiemarleyblog AT gmail DOT com with the following information:
1. name
2. email address
3. website (if you have one)
4. mailing address
5. favorite colors
6. whether or not the mobile is for a babyās room
Monday I will send out your information to your partner and you can get to making. You will receive a mobile from a different person than you are making one for just because surprises are nice.
The picture above is my new studio. Iām still in the basement, but I have a much bigger space and a window that even lets in some light once and a while. Once everything is together Iāll take some pictures so you can see where the magic happensāthough most of my magic has been sitting on the couch watching god awful tv since christmas.
