creative assignment: squid + printer

I sent out all the creative assignments earlier this week.  I took all the words you gave me, numbered them, and then had a random number generator spit out pairs. Some of the pairs were super random! Check these suckers out:

If you have any ideas for these pairs of words, I’m sure the people assigned to them would be very grateful if you left them in the comments :)

The point of this exercise is not to make something huge and amazing, but just to make something, anything: a photo, a drawing, a story, a popsicle stick sculpture. But even something simple seems difficult with two seemingly unrelated words. The two words I got were SQUID + PRINTER. I was secretly happy to get squid, but ugh printer? I don’t have a clue what to do, so I made a list.

I still am not sure what I’ll do, but I do like the ocean–office pairing. Any ideas popping out at you?

Hahaha, that is so funny: Until now I haven’t known that a squid is a calamar. As a German, I just don’t know all the english names for the animals. For me a SQUID always was a superconducting quantum interference device as we have a SQUID magnetometer at our institute at the university of Munich. I just had to laugh so badly ;) BUt well maybe you are more creative when you pair a SQUID (in my understanding) with the printer…

Squid and printer sounds fun! They make ink so you can tie that into your idea.

I immediately thought of a fun vinyl squid decal for your printer ;) I feel kind of bad b/c mine is pretty easy, especially compared to those above! Although, I think a metal moon or moon painted onto metal of some sort would be pretty cool!

An iron on transfer squid that you’ve printed. Who wouldn’t want a t-shirt with this on it? (http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2010/196/8/1/Squid_houette_by_Casual_Redemption.png) or this (http://www.planetrobot.net/caplog/2000/Log15Apr00/squid.jpg) Or a squid squirting ink…

Wow. Now my POP+feather challenge doesn’t seem so crazy. :)

Squid + Printer = Black Spider (squid and printer have black ink, spider and squid have 8 legs/arms). Then you can use it for halloween decorations :).

In my mind I saw one of the nicely detailed kid figurines of a squid (like this) in the hand of an old-fashioned print-press operator. The printer is kind of giving a look like “What the ….?” The whole thing would be an engraving printed with nice ink except for the squid part which would be printed with color ink on a nice modern printer.
Because that wouldn’t take a lot of time to make at all. :)

Well it seems to early for me to use HTML tags. You can delete and I’ll do it later.

I’m always up for a challenge. Organic and plastic made me think of a blog post I did where I featured “organic” sculptures using plastic bags: http://livingvintageco.com/2014/08/friday-favorites-27/. Eyeball and plastic makes me think of body parts. G-rated body parts. Photos of vintage body parts abound. I know it sounds very strange.

  10. […] now for mine. I got the words SQUID + PRINTER, if you remember. My first idea was to draw a squid in a cubicle, but then Lexy (hi Lexy!) […]
